Subject: [78-L] HMV 216000 series questions
Over the past few days I've been looking over the 216000 series of issues that Berliner
Gramophone initiated in 1916, primarily using the Virtual Gramophone to determine what
was issued on each catalogue number. Thus far I've found about 34 that are missing
from the database and I wondered if anyone here might be able to fill in the gaps. I know that a complete list was published in Edward Moogk's "Roll Back the Years", but
I don't own a copy. The numbers below 216500 for which I don't have data are
216000 [was this used at all?], 216001, 216127, 216130, 216209, 216307, 216311,
216312, 216427, 216433, 216440, 216478*
After this point, issues became markedly less frequent. (The pace had already been
slowing--the series had about 147 releases in 1920 as opposed to just 31 or so in 1924.)
In fact, the release dates provided by the Virtual Gramophone indicate that there were no
new issues at all in 1926 (May 1925 is given for 216502 and July 1927 is given for 216503).
The numbers above 216500 that didn't turn up in my search:
216507, 216512-13, 216519, 216522, 216530-31, 216541-43, 216547, 216554, 216557,
216562-63, 216566, 216568, 216574, 216585-86, 216588-89**
*216492 also isn't in the database but it's a Joseph C. Smith record, Hello 'Tucky / I
Love You Best of All.
**216565 only had one of its sides in the database, Sleepy Hollow Jig by A. J. Boulay.
There are more missing numbers from the last 20 issues of the series, but I haven't quite
gotten to them yet. Any help with the foregoing, however, will be much appreciated!

with the server--if the other two do show up at some point, I apologise for the redundancy.]
