Saw this afternoon "The Old Barn Dance," a Republic Picture starring Gene Autry and Smiley Burnette that was restored, beautifully I might add, in 2003 by UCLA film and TV archive. There is a knock down, drag out fight in a radio studio -- vintage mike booms are used as weapons, a radio set goes sailing through a glass studio window and Smiley tosses a whole stack of transcription discs to the four winds. Then there is a scene where Autry's sweetheart and the kid in the picture reassemble a lacquer that has flaked off into pieces. No one I know has been ever able to do that successfully, but they succeed, and save the day. That's the movies for you, I guess.
