[78-L] Q.R.S. discs ^

I understand. I should have attached a soundfile to it; the one side is really "better" than the typical sides by them.

If it were a 40000 Victor I'd start at around $35(again this one title only, not the typical dull quartet disc) and if it were a 235-238 Series I'd add maybe $10 for each thousandth jump so I'm back to around $75 if it were a 238 late one. Again, just opinions, the market is the eventual determinant. If the QRS doesn't sell it will just keep getting reduced and you may end up grabbing it...Ha
Best, Paul

Hey Paul - Of course it is fair to ask anything you like for a record, never
a problem there! I'm just pointing out that if someone were to dish out
$75.00 for that record, it's going to be more for the label that the music.
Just a question, if this were the exact same record on say a 40,000 Victor,
what would be your opening bid?? If it is Hoke Rice, that would be a plus,
but $75 for (almost) any country gospel quartet record is kinda steep in my
opinion. Again, that's just my opinion & I'm often wrong - ha!

I should point out as well that the Hoke Rice records on QRS that have
brought the bigger money are on the 7000 race series, rather than the 9000s.
All are still quite collectible and rare (I don't own one!).

Hi Malcolm,

I think $74.99 is fair for the record of course b/c I am selling it and
because it is actually good; uptempo musically and listenable as opposed to
many of early quartet discs. And the guitar, which honestly adds to the
performance is almost certainly unlisted Hoke Rice. Rice made other solo
records that same time period.

(to me, many of the piano or worse yet-organ accomps on many of these are
awful)
The Hoke rice QRS's that I've sold in V or so condition seemed to sell
around $35-$48.

Hey Cary - I think that is quite high for this record. In E/E- $35-$40 would
be a better suited price - and that's just for the label. If these records
were issued on Victor, they would be tough to give away!
I have a couple of these (9024 & 9029) and could easily be talked out of one
if you're really interested!

For Paul - I think the 2 you have are quite scarce and could be valuable.
I've seen the Hoke Rice records in decent to nice condition bring from
$50-$300. If the condition of yours is V/V+, then I think starting it at $50
would be a decent deal & it would probably close higer (maybe even a good
bit higer)? The other one I have no idea on?? It looks like a skit record of
course, which lessens the value a bit, but I can tell you I've never seen or
heard it before! I think a similar starting price to the Hoke Rice would be
fine and again, you never know.

There is one QRS disc currently on eBay - not as good musically as the Hoke
Rice record, but in much better condition than mine. The minimum is $74.99,
which I think is a fair price.
