Billboard would be a pretty good indicator of release dates, especially 
because the companies printed monthly supplements but did releases at 
least every other week, if not weekly.  Thus, items in supplements were 
often available in the stores in the middle of the prior month -- but 
not always.    It will also help to know if the Billboard magazine date 
is the date of issue of the magazine or the date it goes off-sale (which 
would be the publication date of the next magazine.)  Newsstand 
magazines usually are dated for the end of sale period, but weekly trade 
press like Billboard are often dated for the publication date like a 
newspaper.
