It did indeed happen, most of all in the Philippines and India --
right up to 1967.

The Beatles where immensely popular in non-English speaking countries
all over Europe, but also in South America. Release began in tandem
with the explosion of their popularity around the world in 1964. The
first Southa American Beatles 78 is a promo of Twist and Shout b/w I
Saw Her Standing there realeased on Odeon Pops in Argentina -- in a
picture sleeve no less. http://www.cool78s.com/argentina.html
English language pop/ rock'n'roll sold very well in South America
with a whole whack of stuff by Del Shannon, Chubby Checker, Paul
Anka, and Pat Boone being released there in all formats through at least 64.
