I've seen a picture of the early G&T typewriter.
They made the type of typewriter not with individual letter typing
arms but with one revolving drum with all the letters on it which
would spin to the correct position to type.
For a mechanical typewriter, it was the 'wrong' patent, because the
drum could turn quickly enough when you pressed on the keys. However,
decades later, electric typewriters sported a very similar process,
but, of-course, powered electronically, it had the required speed.
