Robert Altschuler was known unaffectionately to his victims as "The Big
Kahuna." This was in reference to a character created in the 1960s by
KHJ radio program director Ron Jacobs as a station promotion (I'm
speaking about KHJ at the ARSC Conference in a few weeks and there are a
couple of funny promotional spots I'm playing during my talk). Anyway,
Altie took advantage of lots of people on his infrequent visits to L.A.
Only a few well-heeled collectors could afford his wares, and Altie
would leave town with his suitcase full of money, chuckling to himself.
