Within the US, U-Pic, http://www.u-pic.com/ , offers insurance for local & international shipments using common carriers. Their rates are cheaper than the USPS, Fed-Ex & UPS. We have used this service for more than 8 yrs. The rare times claims were made, including international shipments, they were processed in fair time. USPS, Fed-Ex & UPS are all slow when it comes to paying claims.

Just remind yourself that while you carry & put down a package, they toss & drop them repeatedly. Three years ago UPS delivered [left on my door step] a new turntable with a 1/2" of water in the bottom. The distributor wasn't surprised.

I put insurance on it, only $45, I have had trouble to Canada before. When it arrived there was only a couple of shards of glass and part of the outer box. The buyer sent pictures of it. I submitted the paperwork with the pictures, both before and after, to the USPS. They answered back that the buyer needed to take it to the post office in Canada and have them fill out a form and submit it through the Canadian post office. He did that and sent me a copy. I still did not hear back for a month this time. So I refunded his money. I then submitted this information to the USPS, still no payment. I then sent a letter with the information to the postmaster general stating that if they did not intend on paying insurance claims they should not sell insurance. A month later I got
