I know what you mean, Dan. I imagine the quickest way I could employ a
buzzkill at a record collector's party would be to mention my enthusiasm for
the Paul Pendarvis Orchestra, on Columbia but mostly on MacGregor in
1934-35.
PP is on my mind as I recently added four more MacGregors of his to my
collection, along with about a hundred other MacGs including sides by Bart
Woodyard, Henry King, Sterling Young, and other bands few seem to care
about.
I would be interested to hear more about Jaudas, esp. if there are any of
his records you think are of particular merit. I've recently discovered
that many of the early 20s sides by Erdody are quite good as well...and that
he was responsible for the music for a lot of "B" movies in the 40s,
including the legendary "Detour" directed by Edgar G. Ulmer.
