Rust wrote an article about the HMV numbering system in Gramophone in
1971. Here's about the OEA series and the ones that predated it:
> The Hayes code from 1921 was Bb for 10-inch, Cc for 12-inch;
Zonophone used Yy and Zz prefixes to the same block of numbers. On
January 1st, 1931, the system was scrapped again, and a new start made
at OB and 2B, or OY and 2Y. The opening of the Abbey Road studios on
November 12th, 1931, made no difference to the numbers, but the series
was scrapped yet again from August 23rd. 1934, and OEA and 2EA became
the regular HMV matrix series, this time until the end of 78s.
