They're correct, on a technicality. He was born Emil, and changed it to
Emile when he came to the US. Why he did that, I have no idea; I've
heard his first name pronounced "Emily" so many times it drives me
nuts. 

However, in his native Germany it's still Emil, and Deutsche Grammophon
has a complex that they call Emil Berliner Haus.
