The RCA Victor Heritage series disc that I picked up is unbelievably
quiet. I haven't heard anything quite like it, especially as an
acoustic recording. Just a wee bit of surface distortion on the loud
bits. The gold sleeves on everything they had are bit battered, but
okay if I recall.

The Victrola custom pressings are quiet too -- almost like RCA's 'Z' material.

As to the Brunswick/ Polydors --

a blue label -- 95032 Der Freisschutz - Act III Scene II (mx.477 gs)
Act II Scene II (mx. 476 gs) - Tiana Nemitz with the Berlin State
Opera. -- stamped in the runout -- mechan copt. 1935
a red label -- 95056 Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serial Act I (mx 475 gs)
Act II (mx 546 gs) -- Julius Patak and the Berlin State Opera. --
stamped in the runout -- mechan copt. 1935

They are both extremely quiet -- almost remarkably so. In fact, while
I admit that this is not my genre, I am totally captivated by these
last two on levels from the performance through to the recording quality itself

I am heading back to Half Price Books in a few hours to grab the rest
of the Brunswick/ Polydors, the Victtola Customs, and the Heritage
reissues. I'll list them after acquisition in case there is any interest.
