This explains a lot! I have wondered why the media center we had when I 
was a child had a separate 45 rpm changer. Now I know. I can rest easier 
now.

As a very young child I observed carefully how the 78 mechanism worked, 
sliding the records over just a tiny bit until they dropped off the 
ledge and slipped down to the turntable. I also observed that the 
mechanism for 45s was a little different, having one retracting ledge on 
each side, IIRC. Or was it three?
