Frequency response more has to do with the cutter heads, and cutting amps, the limiting factor most likely was the transformers, there were three different microphones in the late twenties, the condenser microphones with the swivel head,some were in a pedistal stand, 40,-8,000 cps, single button carbon 300-3000cps, and double button, 80-5000cps.   Most of those early electical, 50-4000 cps, mosty because they used capacitors at the grid leaks to make the highs rolloff.
