[78-L] LYRIC Label by LYRAPHONE, Newark NJ.

I forgot to point out there was a Hebrew series and they also continued to produce verticals alongside the laterals.  I don't have any of these records and this brings in two other label designs that I don't have shown on my site.  Both of these are pictured in ARLIE.

Thank you for pointing that out Han.  I will fix it and also put in the reason why the price is higher.  This is 1 of 3 12" records I know of on Lyric, 9106, 9107, 9108.  I have 9105 and it's a 10" record.  9103 and 9104 are listed as 10" and I haven't seen anything higher than 9108.

I haven't pulled together the discography yet for these but have most of the data to do so.  There was a 4100, 5100, 6100, 7100, 8100 and 9100 series for verticals.

For laterals they started at 4200, 5200, 6200, 7200, 8200 with numerous subseries in each of these, like a 5900 for hymns.  I have not seen a 9200 series.  When I have the full discography put together (with the data I have) I'll post more info on my site.

Han, I would be interested in seeing this 3791 image.  Could you please send it?

Regards,
Glenn

There were a number of Lyric "subseries", though I have no idea how many of them.
My first images in the 4000 series are in range 4101-4167, with both types of multicolor labels.
So these should be vertical. All were 75c in the US. (4140 titled "Some Jazz Blues"; fascinating).

Only the first laterals have been described as such, and I see "Lateral" on 4201-4214
(but a price on 4217-4243), 4601 & 4901-4903.
4701 by Harry J. Clarke's Royal Waikiki Orch has a price ($1.00) but it will depend on the
release date if it also exists with "Lateral".
Range 5101-5152 has multicolored labels, but 5201-5213, 5602 & 5903 are "Lateral",
5216-5225 are $1.00.

These image series suggest that there are no 4001-4099 & 5001-5099 series.
An image of 3791 (Lydia Lindgren: Bird's Song) belongs to an unexplained series.

I'm surprised by the price of the 9000 series. Most are $1.25 in US, but 9107 (1812 Overture)
is $2.00 ($2.35 in Canada). Why?
[Glenn there is a price typo in your text about this label picture].

It is too bad you do not have any of the vertical Lyric discs because in
addition to the beautiful multicolor lithographed labels, the recordings
are sometimes extraordinary. The first one I got has orchestral
transcription of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor and the
overture to Midsummer Night's Dream. Both are wonderful recordings and
run at least 5 minutes each on the 10-inch sides.

For all the label varieties of Lyric by Lyraphone records go to the bottom of this page.  There's also a link to the Lyric Phonograph which was the first incarnation of the company
before they reorganized and became a record producer.

Those are all lateral groove records, you have no vertical cut Lyrics in that batch.
The Verticals would be from 4101 to 4170, and the laterals start after that .
The 4000 series were the dance records, 5000's were vocals and 6000's were
standard and classical.
4700's were the Hawaiian series. Hope this helps.

Just brought home a collection of 78s and found 5 double sided LYRIC label 10" records by Lyraphone Co, Newark, NJ. Some poking around on the internet shows these to be kind of scarce. 2 of them are marked Lateral and 3 have a Price $1.00 instead on the label.

You can view them here:

I recorded a few they were vertical cut. I'm sure the 2 marked Lateral are lateral cut but the other 3 I'm not sure of. The grooves look lateral cut to me, but they're not marked as such.

Any comments?

Thanks! CDB
