On the Springboard International album I had,Byas also soloed on "Star Dust"
with Dizzy,Joe Guy was
the soloist heard on "Guy's Got to Go" and "Stompin' at the Savoy" which also
showed Christian to good
advantage. It was my understanding that those recordings were privately
recorded.There was a story I
heard years ago that whenever Charlie Parker came up to the mic to play, the
person who made the rec-
ordings turned off his recorder.I was of the impression that it was a man named
Jerry Newman.The discs
were paper.Nick Fenton, who worked with Lester Young in the early '40s,doubled
bariton sax along with
string bass.I have an old RCA Vintage album of Lester Young's band with Una Mae
Carlisle on piano
and vocals("Blizkrieg Baby" and "Beautiful Eyes".also featured were trumpeter
Shad Collins and guitarist
John Collins). They were recorded in 1941.
