"Germany"...!) underwent a revolution
in the 1840's, so a lot of its citizens had to "get out" in a hurry. As it 
happened, the midwest
"corn belt" was just being settled, and the Germans knew good farmland when 
they encountered it!
They settled most of this area in the 1840's/1850's...!
