Bob Dunn: Master of the Electric Steel
Guitar (1935-1950)

Deluxe 2-CD box set ($34.95 + shipping)

Origin Jazz Library OJL-1004

Bob Dunn (1908–1971) was the amplified steel guitar's first stylist, a gentle
bear of a man whose innovative ideas revolutionized western swing and inspired
countless musicians in the Southwest during the 1930s and '40s. More than 75
years after his first appearances on record, Dunn still amazes those who
have never heard the electric steel guitar’s beginnings. His solos are often
otherworldly; jagged cascades of arpeggios, jarring staccato notes, and Hawaiian
chime effects emanated from his primitive instruments. In his groundbreaking, literally electrifying music, Dunn melded Hawaiian, country, and hot jazz elements into a style that reverberates today in genres from modern country to rock 'n' roll. This essential box set
features dozens of Dunn's most astounding performances, which have been
digitally restored from original 78s. Bands include Milton Brown & his Brownies, Cliff Bruner's Texas Wanderers, Roy Newman & his Boys, Bob Dunn's Vagabonds, and many more. For full track details, see our website.
