[78-L] OT? Coin operated radio

Could someone in the U.S. give a brief answer to me ? Why would one have had a coin-operated radio and who would the customers be ? Would it be some precursor to the jukebox for a bar or tavern ? Or was it designed that you could "hire it" like you could with televisions in the 70s (at least) so you put your coins in and maybe an internal "clock" would run for a week eBay item 150423686375 just for information as it inspired my thoughts.
