Since no paper ledgers exist for this label a guesstimate of c. 1953/54
is pretty good, judging by oral histories. There are only 5 known 78rpm
issues, the last 3 being numbers by Ed Kenney from a minor stage play
"49th Star" which made its debut in 1954. Ironic in that both the 49th
State label and the title of the play allude to Hawaii being the 49th
State. They only missed by one. Alaska became the 49th state, Hawaii is
50th.
The Magoon family name is an old one in the state and probably goes back
to the 1840s or earlier. Eaton "Bob" Magoon was the owner of the
Hawaiian record label.
As to the 49th State label, I have plenty of dupes if you want more!
Email me off list for info.
