Not having any way to have a direct comparison, I can't say.  But it has 
a TBC (that's Time Base Correction for you non-video people, it keeps 
the scanning lines coming at the correct intervals to reduce jitter) and 
I can even run analogue video thru it to the DV digital output into 
either a DVD recorder or computer.  That's how we did the old ARSC and 
Syndicate VHS footage in Leah's documentary.  There is some kind of 20 
program video editor in this thing also but I have never used it.   I 
thihk this is going to be the final machine made to play 8mm video, and 
it plays standard, hi-8 and digital 8.  It also records but I have no 
need for that!
