I am searching on an MGM disk on Ebay with an MGM label, performed by
Teddy Joyce and the Capitolians (Capitol Theater Orchestra, Broadway
NY). The number, 1076P, coincides with a Supertone by Teddy Joyce and
the Penn State Rec.(?) Is this that same recording and is there a
connection between these 2 labels?
I look in MGM in the online database and those 4 digit numbers don't
show up.
I am looking to hear whether Lou Calabrese is on there, though I think
he had already moved west by then, having worked previously with
Roesner. It might be that Joyce was there just after Roesner left to go
back to California, and perhaps Lou stayed back a while, until the end
of 1929. I do know that Calabrese helped open the Minnesota Theater in
1928, but did not stay there. He also changed his name to "Breese". He
did return in 1930 for an extended stay.
As an aside, Lou's new name was intended to be pronounced, Breh-se, but
when people started calling him "Breese", he wisely chose to abstain
from protest.
