The Star ran a feature article to-day on the increasing practice of the
technologically
adept (AKA "geeks") posting detailed accounts of their "unboxing" their new
items...!

So, not to be excluded, I thought I'd describe my "unboxing" of a
nearly-full milk
box of 78's dropped off by Mr. Lennick...!

First, I was pleasantly surprised by how few duplicates were included
(fortunately
those may be easily sold on e-wotsit...?!).

So far (and I'm only about a third of the way through the box?!) the oddest
item
I've found is a vocal version (A Collins) of "Chicken Reel!" Note that that
tune
has become the standard musical cliche to describe "WAY out in the
'boonies'"
and I didn't, in fact, even know it DID have lyrics...it will be interesting
to hear
thereof, and I may learn the lyrics and add the song to my collection of
"them
good old tunes never heard any more," along with "Tell Mother I'll Be
There!"

Finally, an odd tale about this latter tune...! I used to use it as a "VERY
last
encore" number at the end of my blues gigs (after the rest of the band
had pretty well torn down and packed their gear!). I did that one night,
and a lady around my age came up and asked me "Where did you
EVER hear that song?! That was one of my mother's favourite hymns,
and I had no idea anyone still knew...or even knew OF...it!

With no backing (the rest of the band all packed up), I neede a tune
I could perform "acapulco" (a cappella)...so "Tell..." fit perfectly!
