Interestingly enough, they both/all come from very similar musical sources! 
The maritime
artists were heavily influenced by the fiddlers (some Quebecois) they had 
grown up with
and learned from, who were of Anglo-Celtic descent. Likewise, the US "c&w" 
artists were
from rural Appalachia...where Anglo-Celtic music was still being played in 
the early 20th
century...!
