I have little of Dunham other than hearing once on a cassette of him doing "Memories of You" with Glen Gray.I would love to have more of his big band if I knew where I could get it.I discovered Louis Prima's
recordings on Varsity circa 1946 and I thought he had a great band. The Varsities I have are:"Saint Louis
Blues" and "Chinatown,My Chinatown".Was Oberstein in control of Varsity then?I know of his Elite label
via Bunny Berigan's 1941-42 recordings which were reissued on a Melodie Jazz CD back in the early '90s.
The Prima 78s I have on Varsity were pressed by the "Wright Record Company".I thought Prima's "Saint
Louis Blues" was outstanding.I hated "Robin Hood" but I liked his "A Little On the Lonely Side" on a black
label Majestic.Don't talk to me about Sam Butera and the Witnesses on Capitol.

Sorry to disagree. A fine trumpeter as far as I'm concerned; I have many
recordings and broadcasts when he was with Tommy Dorsey and he really
sparked that band. Wrote some wonderful music as well.

I like Dunham as well though. There are many trumpet players whom I listen
to. I do think that Roy Hargrove is greatly overrated, but he is off-topic
on this list anyway.
