[78-L] Mystery Tenor

I'm still unpacking a collection of 20,000 plus 78s I picked up a couple
years ago and there are a LOT of Peerce 78s, not to mention the 60s LPs he
made which I haven't played yet. I'll start paying more attention to them
as I bring them up and check them out. I wouldn't be surprised if most of
them aren't here someplace, this guy was a real banana about completing
certain singers' outputs, and Peerce is likely one of them since he also had
autographed photos made out to him from ol' Bluebird himself. I liked one
of them enough that it's now in a frame in my little studio here.

I don't think anyone's ever done a complete issue of those Peerce Royale
(etc) sides. There are 30. Erno Rapee conducts on the first session
(including Vesti/La Donna), Dick Leibert is the organist on some (like the
one anonymously issued which reads "O Promise Me" - Tenor with Organ),
others have unknown accompaniment.

him from when he was Pinky Pearl on Crown. Those sides have a
"transcription" sound to them in some cases and Vesti La Giubba was reissued
on 45 transferred from a very noisy 33rpm lacquer, so we know Obie was
recording and dubbing from 33RPM originals (I have two very different issues
of "She Had to Go and Lose It at the Astor", running at different speeds,
both from the same source).
