I try to be sympathetic towards Marquette. After all, with the 
double-prejudice of colour and size against him, who can blame him for 
trying to make a fast buck when the opportunity arose? The common 
response to someone of diminutive stature when they're looking for 
employment is "Go and join a circus!"
