[78-L] Damage Control on Acoustic 78s?

I am thinking that using too small a stylus will make the records sound
really bad but probably not do that much harm, if the other factors are
all ok.
If the stylus rides the bottom of the groove, thru all the trash and
debris therein, you will hear it. When you switch to a larger stylus it
should ride above that and sound better. If the bottom of the groove is
damaged but the stylus no longer contacts that portion, it will be as if
that damage is not there.
That's my thought.
