[78-L] The vynil word on the subject

It's a faux-hip way to refer to what mostly have been called
records...sounds more "cutting edge" to say you are "into vinyl" instead of
saying you "collect records."
Of course in some circles, you get get yourself into some trouble by saying
you are "into vinyl" but we don't need to go there.

Good point! That’s another reason the term “vinyl” bothers me. Taken in
a jazz context, I think too many of today’s young collectors who use
the term are thinking 10- and 12-inch LPs. These are the same people
who tend to venerate Blue Note, Prestige, Riverside, Signal,
Transition, Intro, and a few others.
