Han lists Melotone 8-02-66 and Per 8-05-01, but the last Melotone was
8-05-01. This is shown on 78 Online Discographical Project. I, too,
have a copy of Perfect 8-05-01 but not the Melotone. The last Melotone
Kinkle lists is 7-10-06 and Perfect 16143. He has no listings for
Banner or Romeo. I don’t recall the highest Banner or Romeo catalog
number I have. I once spoke with Kinkle by phone. He told me that at
one time or another, he had copies of most of the records listed in his
books. In addition to compiling his books, he also sold records. Before
his four-volume work was published, he self-published mimeographed
listings on 8-9/16x14-inch sheets. I have two volumes bound in
bookkeeper’s ledgers. For unknown reasons, I have several pieces of
sheet music inside the front cover: “I Want a Policeman on My Street”
and “¬et Ron Do It,” dedicated for Ronald Reagan and copyrighted 1980.
Other tunes mentioned on one sheet that most surely will set 78-Listers
a-hummin’ and a-tappin’ are: “Right to Life” (an anti-abortion song),
“Mother and Dad” (a real heart tugger!), The Magyars 896 A.D. (surely
you rermember that year!), and the “Star Spangled Banner” with new
melody (soon to be re-titled Star Mangled Banner).
