dl says: I've acquired thousands of good records and thousands of
mediocre ones for pennies or less, since I'm one of the "go to" people
when
folks have basements that need emptying. If they're free, you take 'em
first
and sort 'em out later.

I have a collector/dealer friend known to you all but who shall remain
nameless. On more than one occasion, I have observed him take boxes of
recently purchased and sorted through records out the door of his
warehouse to a dumpster out back into which he heaved the boxes. I
considered this “performance art” on the order of a rock star smashing
a guitar and asked if I might film it some time. If a serious record
collector were to see this, he would likely have an instant coronary.
I, too, once acquired more than 800 records for $50. Out of these 800,
I may have saved 50. Among the 50 was an E+ copy of Erskine Tate’s
Vocalion recording of “Static Strut” and “Stomp Off, Let’s Go.” Yes,
among the dross there may be gold.
