Mike Biel says: When I came across photos of Sam Goody's 49th Street it
brought back so many details to me that I had forgotten.
When I arrived in New York City in the fall of 1958, I used to visit
both Goody stores. Once on going in the 49th Street store, about 15
feet inside the entrance on the left were some stacks of new LPs being
sold at reduced price. I bought three Savoy reissues of Boyd Raeburn
and a Phil Urso-Bob Brookmeyer LP for 99¢ each. This is where I first
met Jeff Atterton, who died about three weeks ago in an assisted-living
facility. Harry Lim worked at the Third Avenue store. He was testy and
not helpful to me, so every time I went in after that, I would ask him
for the latest Patty Page record. He would go into a back room and stay
there until I left.
