Herman Lubinski’s radio store in Newark also sold new and used records
in the late 1930s. Cover designer Paul Bacon told me he and other
members of the Newark Jazz Society used to shop there. Paul says he
first became aware of Armstrong’s small-group OKeh recordings reissued
on black-and-gold Vocalions. Lubinski was a noted early-radio expert.
This was well before he started his Savoy label.
