Edison himself actually did this many times on tinfoil as a 
demonstration of the machine.  He would make a recording, leaving spaces 
between the sentences, and play it back making comments about how stupid 
that guy was, and then play back both voices on the one recording.  
Edison invented overdubbing in 1878.
