Which brings up a point about this Red State - Blue State business. For
most of the 20th century Red used to refer to Communism. Isn't it odd
that now Red refers to Republican/Conservative, while Blue refers to
Democratic/Liberal (and if you are crazy enough to pay any attention to
the gang of idiots over at Faux News, Commie/Nazis). I realize that
this color designation grew out of the map colors on TV election
coverage, but which network made the decision? When I was first
studying TV production in the 60s we were constantly reminded of "Grey
Scale" because different colors can sometimes show up the same on black
and white TV despite looking quite different in person or on color TV.
I used to note as color TV became more dominant that TV directors were
forgetting that some people still had B&W sets, and that the red and
blue colors they were using looked exactly the same on B&W. Also, I
don't remember any consistency of color selection among the networks. I
remember them all being different. I wish someone would do the research
to find out when the consistency was ironed out and who forgot that red
meant commie.

One of my all-time favorite songs.
"We're after Rosie Clooney
We've gotten Pinky Lee
And the day we get Red Skelton
Won't that be a victory?"
