[78-L] Mainstream radio in the '60s

...and because it was a hit. Circular definition.
So what about all the other tunes than were complex, unusual in structure 
and adaptive but never made the charts? Were the tunesmith's not eager 
enough? Or had they never heard of the possibility to write evergreens?
I'm still waiting for someone to rediscover Hoagy Carmichael's wonderful 
"One Night In Havana". It's 83 years now since he first recorded it. It may 
happen any day now and become a smash hit. And be played on the US Oldies 
stations in 2030. And we can all say: it was meant to last forever.
If that doesn't happen...well, we can always say: it wasn't meant to last 
very long.
