I've just played a few of his Mercury sides and, OK, he's not bad. I've
decided it's his singing that is self-congratulatory, not his alto
playing. His singing is poor man's Wynonie Harris, and tiresome, which
makes it hard work listening for his instrumental playing. The tenor
player featured on some of the early sides is more interesting than Vinson.
