If anyone is interested in seeing the portable recording equipment of the 
1920s, check old issues of the National Geographic magazine.  I recall 
seeing some of those monsters, along with the natives who made the 
recordings for posterity.  I think the National Geographic is indexed, so it 
should be possible to find photos without looking thru all the issues for 
photos.
