Are "Blu-Ray" discs NOT playable on regular DVD players? I don't have
a "stand-alone" DVD player, but use my computer and monitor to watch
the few DVD's I have accumulated (usually $1 at Dollarama!).

I always thought that "Blu-Ray" referred to an improved method of
recording the discs, which was still compatible with ordinary DVD
players...?!
