[78-L] Two days before...

Someone contacted me a couple of years ago about downsizing his father's
collection..sent a spreadsheet and everything! Eventually we agreed that he
could ship them to me and I would transfer anything he wanted. As it turned
out, all he wanted transferred were the party records..elsewhere in the load
were two Decca albums by The Southernaires, a gorgeous set (in a slipcase) of
West African Field Recordings, Singin' Sam's Negro Character Songs (!), a mint
copy of the Chick Webb Memorial Album....

Then there are the folks who contact me and want discs transferred, then vanish
without a trace. Graham Newton has run into the same situation. In one case, I
have a pile of airchecks and transcriptions of a well-known Canadian
broadcaster who is probably still alive but who moved and can't be located even
through the actors' organizations. (Rod Coneybeare, where are you?)

The old fellow said he wsn't going to sell these records, he was going to see about getting them recorded. He said they belonged to his father and he hadn't heard them for years. I told him I'd make CDs for him if he'd sell them to me so he did. His wife gave me an address to mail the CDs to and I took them home. It took about a couple weeks to record them all and get them onto 6 CDs, them I mailed them. I got a very sweet thank you note from his wife about a month later. My wife read it and she cried (she's a sensitive lady).
