[78-L] For those married folks, how does your spouse fell about your record collection?

When I was an adolescent in Columbus, Ohio, I had the great fortune of having as my mentor a great and generous collector, Isabelle Sayers, whose issue lie in dealing with her husband, a fine, loving man who nevertheless struggled with his wife's interests and... stuff. Isabelle was one of a kind. For one thing, it has been my experience that few women seem to have the "collecting gene" to the extent that men do; but my friend had all manner of things from phonographs (7 or 8 Berliners, for heaven sakes!), vast heaps of records, sheet music, costumes, and even a significant collection of Annie Oakley memorabilia, about whom she eventually published. Her husband and family were, fortunately, tolerant and broadminded when it came to the... stuff, as well as her bizarre friends, be they eccentric kids such as I (or earlier, the young Terry Waldo) and the great (or weird, depending on one's frame of reference) collectors who came to visit. I never got to
meet Milford Fargo, but clearly remember, as perhaps some on this list might, Breevort O'Dell, who himself was fortunate in having an adoring and tolerant spouse. Frank Sayers was a prince. As a parting tribute to Mrs. Sayers, it might only be on this list that I can pass along her handy storage tip for safekeeping Berliner discs: saucepans.

This time I'm going to bite my tongue, rather than inject more
comments about how this is more proof what a group of freaks we
collectors can be...

Salerno's remarks about how the woman can be replaced more easily than
some of the records...uh yep, no wonder he's single!
