With Veteran's Day approaching I decided to get out my favorite WWI related record,My Dream of the Big Parade(Al Dubin-Jimmy McHugh)The Peerless Quartet with Billy Murray [in fine print]Victor 20098
I see it listed in the Victor Master Book as recorded 30 June 1926 but no issues shown*,orchestra conducted by Rosario Bourdon [sp?] but Billy Murray is not mentioned.
It also shows it as two masters:My Dream of the Big Parade - Part 1 is # 35498 five takes and My Dream of the Big Parade - Part 2 35499 also five takes [remember the VMB shows the number of takes made, NOT an i.d. of the issued take]
*If you check the issue number index under 20098 it shows 35499 was used.(my copy is take # 3)
So this begs the question of what else does the file say about this tune? Two parts makes me wonder what was included in Part 1, why it wasn't used etc.Do we know why Murray wasn't mentioned in the file, or was it simply an oversight by Rust or his helpers?
How common is this record? Isn't there a list of Victor record sales by number somewhere? I've seen a few copies of this one, I own one, and it was reissued on the disc of war songs by New World Records in 1976. Any other reissues of this?
