Well, being the proud (?) owner of a ton of NOS red shellac Vocalions of
both "pop" stuff (Selvin et al) and opera discs (Raisa etc) I acquired
several years ago, I can tell you that when played back electrically with
usually a 2.5 mil stylus, they're super quiet...

Well, it may or may not have been actually true...but Vocalion wanted its
potential customers to BELIEVE it was true! IIRC, they said they played
more quietly and lasted longer...?!
