But the Washington Monument is NOT Washington's GRAVE. It is the kind
of monument that David Lennick IS suggesting is more appropriate to
visit. Washington's grave is at his home in Virginia, Mount Vernon, in
an open brick building down a pathway in the woods. And actually, Mt
Vernon is an even more appropriate place to visit since it is a museum
that explains Washington the man and his lifestyle. The grave is
incidental and out of the way. The same with Edison. Go to the Edison
Site (when it re-opens) and also go to his nearby home Glenmont (which
IS open) and if you desire you can see Edison's grave out on the back
lawn -- or not go see the grave, as you desire.

>> Right! Play his records, put a plaque up, enjoy what he did. Who cares where
he's buried? I truly do not understand this constant obsession with
visiting
graves. Anyone's. Why would you go to visit Edith Piaf's grave or
Mozart's
or Michael Jackson's? Is it going to bring you happiness? No, enjoying
what
they left you is going to bring you happiness. Is visiting a grave going

to bring the person back to life? Talk about a waste of time and energy.
If I sound a bit rabid about this subject, let's just say I'm letting go

of an irritation that has bothered me for decades.

Yes, I stand behind every word of this and my previous diatribe, and
I know we haven't heard the last on the subject. I find worshipping
the dead disgusting. Sue me. dl
