[78-L] Billy Murray Tribute?!

Wasn't it the late Janis Joplin who discovered that Bessie Smith was buried
with a similar headstone in a little cemetery on the outskirts of
Philadelphia? She then took it upon herself to erect a large tombstone
which proclaimed (IIRC),'"The Worlds Greatest Blues Singer Will Sing Forever
"

The final point I wish to make hopefully without jumping into the Shark Pool
again, is that the family stone, was probably purchased by Billy himself
when he purchased the Family cemetery plot years before his death. Some
folks at that point actually have their names inscribed with just their
birth dates and a dash, others as in this case, just leave the family name
in place, and wait for each subsequent passing to inscribe the name and
dates for each family member. In this case, I would wager a dollar to a
donut (and of course I could be wrong believe me) that because of either a
lack of funds, or the passage of time, it was forgotten. So here we are 55
years after his passing, and recognition of this man's life at his own grave
site, is still not a reality. Enough said, time to move on. Thanks.

We agree! And Billy Murray is not exactly forgotten, since there are
websites
and reissues out there..when is Ryan Barna going to wade into this shark
pool?

prior emails, I explained what can sometimes happen when there is a lack of
surviving heirs and funds to properly direct that inscriptions be put in
place at the grave site for each individual to be interred their. Again, if
it is the wish of the surviving heirs that nothing more be done, and Billy's
grave simply be marked by what is the family Stone "Murray", then it is a
dead idea (no pun intended), and in my opinion as an ardent collector and
preservationist of his records and legacy, a most noble one !!

far as I am concerned the matter of the dueling comments is closed. Not the
Billy Murray Tribute matter.
