Oh, I don't know Cary. Bird and Dizzy could and did swing as well as anyone. 
Just give a listen to Parker's three chorus solo on "I'm Forever Blowing 
Bubbles" from the Savoy Ballroom with Jay McShan's band. (1942) They turned 
that place upside down. As far as the great Monk is concerned..most of his 
solos were...well....maybe a little uhhhhh.....halting.
