The co-writer is Joseph Rumshinsky, a noted composer for the Yiddish Theater who is noted for being one of two American composers Ira Gershwin chose for the lyrics to "Tschaikowsky (and Other Russians)" featured in the Broadway musical "Lady in the Dark," which launched the career of Danny Kaye (Rumshinsky was born in Russia so his name qualifies for the song. The other American was "Dukelsky," which was the real name of showtune writer Vernon Duke.)
Incidentally, there is a fabulous new book about "Lady in the Dark" by bruce mcclung (yes, he spells his name all in lower case, like e.e. cummings).
