[78-L] Not-So-Good Time Charlie

Hey Andrea,

I only recently discovered Charlie and his Orchestra, thanks to the endless
wonders of YouTube. The lyrics on the Charlie records are in English as
they were intended for broadcast to the Allies to "break down" morale. The
band on them is outstanding even though the "special" lyrics are terrible.
The lyrics on the one track I've heard ("Makin' Whoopee") are so stupid that
I can't imagine they "converted" anyone...and once the vocal is over we're
treated to some pretty hip playing.

I am curious if any of our group own any of these Charlie records on the
original 78s and could share info about them...I'm not even sure if they are
double-sided, 10" or 12" or what. I learned from the net that the leader
of the band apparently helped shelter some Jews during the war, and that he
moved to the US after the war ended.

Taylor
