No..."protest singers" (mostly folksingers?!) emerged in the fifties
(when there were a LOT of things worth protesting?!)...and gained
credit in the sixties, when society began leaning in their direction!
It is very possible that McLuhan, who wrote in that era, could
correctly write the above (when it was both true and accurate)
without relizing he was living in a sort of "time fragment" which
was oddly isolated from both its antecedents and its (figurative)
descendants!
