Check out the New York Times' Sunday section tomorrow. There's a lengthy article about the hunt for Paramount 78s, most specifically, recordings hunted down by John Heneghan and John Tefteller. There's a nice blow-up photo of "Clarksdale Moan" by Son House, which is probably as close as any of us will get to seeing one, unless we visit Tefteller's house. The big quote is "You don't have to be crazy to collect rare Paramount 78s. bu you probably do have to be a little obsessive. According to the article, Tefteller is meticulous and scientific about his hunts; in 2002 he mailed fliers to every resident within 100 miles of Grafton, Wisconsin, asking about 78s, and then waitied in a Best Western motel in Port Washington to field phone calls. Great article. And I like Heneghan's hat.
